NARRATOR: ON MONDAY, MARCH 20, THE AUBURN UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNANIMOUSLY SELECTED IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT STEVEN LEATH TO BECOME AUBURN’S 19TH PRESIDENT. TRUSTEE RAYMOND HARBERT, CHAIRPERSON OF THE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE, EXPLAINS THEIR CHOICE.

Actuality: After a six-month national search, we found an accomplished leader.  While president at Iowa State, the university achieved its highest student graduation rate, lowered student debt and grew research expenditures. Dr. Leath will work alongside the campus community and alumni to elevate Auburn to the next level in instruction, research and outreach. This is a great day for Auburn. *

NARRATOR: THE NEW PRESIDENT WILL BEGIN HIS TERM ON JULY 15, REPLACING JAY GOGUE, WHO HAS BEEN AUBURN’S PRESIDENT SINCE JULY 2007. THE TWO-TIME AUBURN GRADUATE ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT IN SEPTEMBER. AFTER STEPPING DOWN HE WILL REMAIN AT AUBURN TEACHING A HIGHER EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION COURSE. CHARLES MCCARY, PRESIDENT PRO TEM OF THE AUBURN BOARD, REFLECTS ON GOGUE’S TIME AS AUBURN’S 18TH PRESIDENT.

Actuality: Gogue is known for engaging with students and creating a strong university partnership with the local community. The contribution he made to Auburn is immeasurable we’re fortunate he will remain part of the Auburn community.
